The Afterschool Program caters to children 6-12 years of age from Monday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the various schools.  The program is funded through Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS) where the strategy is focused on supporting comprehensive after school programming in specific priority neighborhoods where school age residents can benefit from new or enhanced programs focused on physical activity, health eating and nutrition, homework support, wellness and personal health education.

Big Kids/Kindergarten Readiness Club is open to children preparing to enter kindergarten. It concentrates on activities that will occur once the children have entered school - circle time, hands on learning activities and free play time as well as pro social interactions. This program is also essential for children whom English is not their first language as it facilitates the opportunity to engage with others in English in an informal environment.

Creative Play Success by Six  program provides a place for children, aged 0-6 years to socialize with other children focusing on early literacy, math and social skills necessary for a successful start to school. ACSA's aim is to combat isolation in our community by promoting parent and caregivers to engage with each other while staff work with parents to tend to the needs of the children during different developmental stages. This program is run from various locations throughout the community.

Baby Buddies/Toddler Program is for babies 0-24 months old,  toddler 2-3 years of age and their families/caregivers. This program facilitates play time and socialization in a safe and friendly environment.

Readiness to learn summer program: July-August

This is a great program for children entering Junior/Senior Kindergarten in the fall.  The program will help children and families prepare for school.  During the 2.5 hour program, we include routines and structures very similar to a kindergarten classroom this will also include separation.  Children will also have the opportunity to practice developmental skills which will be utilized during their early stage of learning in Junior/Senior kindergarten.

Youth Drop-In

Held every Thursday after school, the Youth Drop-In Program aims at creating a safe space for youth to engage with each other and socialize with youth outreach workers. Homework help is offered to those who need it and there is an opportunity to become involved in the planning of community projects. It is important for ACSA's youth outreach workers to facilitate the education of Youth in sensitive issues. We support a dialogue on important issues relevant to youth today such as violence, sexism and positive body image.

March and Summer Break Programs

During March and summer break, youth have the opportunity to involve themselves in art programs, community trips and youth focused educational programming. In the past, ACSA has partnered with other community agencies such as North West Scarborough Youth Center to coordinate and run summer camps throughout the summer. These camps are focused on involving youth in summer activities with thoroughly trained coordinators and counselors. Overall, summer camp programs are conducive of ACSA's mission to engage youth in pro social and safe activities- deterring violence and high risk activities, nourishing development and life skills.
