Family Swim Lessons (Beginner)

Start learning to swim as a family - children and adults welcome! Based on the Swim for Life 1-3 criteria: become comfortable jumping into water with and without a PFD. Learn to open your eyes, exhale and hold your breath underwater. Work on floats, glides and kicking through the water. When you're ready you will get comfortable supporting yourself at the surface in deep water and begin whip kick, front and back crawl (10-15m). Learn vital information on how to stay safe around water while having fun! Each participant must register. Recommended: Non-Swimmer

Fitness Swimmer Child & Youth

No matter what your age, Fitness Swimmer lets you set your own goals to improve overall physical fitness. Fitness Swimmer is a structured approach based on accepted training principles and practices including interval training, sprints and distance swims. Participants should be able to swim 25m. Please note: Due to a revised safety standard, the diving skills in Learn to Swim levels 5 and higher will not be taught at the Frank McKechnie, River Grove, and South Common pools beginning with the Fall 2017 session.

H3O Swim For Life 1

This program is taught at a 3 to 1 ratio. These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a lifejacket. They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They'll work on floats on their front and back, glides and kicking through the water on their front, back and side. Recommended: non-swimmer or completed Swim For Life Preschool A, B, C, D or repeating Swim For Life 1. Class Length: 30 min.

Lane Swim

A minimum of one lane will be available for continuous lap swimming. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 metres and be comfortable in deep water. To ensure a positive experience for all participants: Check with the pool on the number of lanes that are available Ask how the lanes are divided and/or designated to other activities Observe the pace of swimmers before choosing the lane that best suits your pace See a lifeguard if you require assistance The City of Mississauga reserves the right to restrict swims to a maximum number of participants

Private Lessons Swimming

One - on - one instruction is available for children and adults. Classes are designed to work on a specific skill or activities. Swim And Lifesaving / EFA Instructors With High Five PHCD

The combined Swim and Lifesaving Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate swim strokes and lifesaving skills. Through classroom learning and in water practice, instructor candidates explore proven teaching methods; learning strategies and activities; a variety of stroke and skill drills; effective correction techniques; and evaluation criteria. Practice teaching is emphasized throughout. The HIGH FIVE program is committed to assisting healthy development among children. This program teaches participants to integrate the 5 principles into program planning, conflict resolution and creating a safe environment. Mandatory manual is required. (Swimming & Lifesaving Instructor Pac). You must purchase the manual at the community centre when you register. 100 per cent participation required. Assistant Instructors is recommended. Prerequisite: 16 years of age by the end of the course, and Bronze Cross (or higher) certification. Course Length: 44 hrs.

Swim For Life 2

These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They'll support themselves at the surface without an aid for 15 sec., recover an object in chest-deep water, swim 5m on their front and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x 5 m). Recommended completed Swim For Life 1 or completed Preschool E. Class Length: 30 min.

Confirmation receipts will be mailed within 2 weeks or e-mailed immediately

Online registration for Fall and Winter programs begin August 15. In person registration available at recreation facilities and the Customer Service Centre beginning August 22.

Programs with low enrollment may be cancelled. Remember to register early.
