Adapted Swim Lessons For Children

This program (formerly known as Children with Special Needs) is designed for children with learning, physical or intellectual difficulties. It focuses on developing sound water safety habits and basic swimming skills. To participate in this program, each child must be accompanied in the water by their own caregiver/volunteer. This individual must be at least 14 years of age and comfortable in a water environment, they should be familiar with the child's physical and emotional needs, and capable of managing the general progress in a safe manner. Class groups of no greater than five participants will be directed by qualified instructors, caregivers/volunteers will be instructed on techniques to assist with the learning process.

Ai Chi ≈

Ai chi is a gentle group exercise program in warm, chest-deep water. It is based on a series of 19 flowing movement patterns similar to tai chi. Some people living with fibromyalgia have experienced profound pain relief because of their participation in an ai chi program. The program begins with breathing exercises and progresses by adding upper body movements, trunk stability challenges and lower body movements. It is designed to tone the body, increase range of motion while promoting relaxation and a healthy mind-body relationship.

This program is designed for non-swimmers and swimmers alike. The program is ideal for individuals who want to get a great workout and reduce the amount of stress placed on joints or for those who are interested in cross-training options from land based activities. Aquatic Supervisor Training

In order to take this course a person must have worked at least 100 hours as an instructor or lifeguard, hold an NLS and have a written recommendation from their supervisor. Mandatory manual is required. ( Guide to Ontario Public Pools Regulation ). You must purchase the manual at the community centre front desk. Course Length: 12 hrs.

Beginner Drop In Adult Pickleball

A racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. Pickleball is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net but is mounted lower. This game is played with a hard paddle and a whiffle ball. Beginners welcome.

Citi Swim

Citi*Swim is a team oriented introduction to competitive swimming. It offers the opportunity to learn skills and improve fitness for youth. By belonging to a team, each person enjoys learning to swim faster by challenging themselves to improve personal best times in swim meets. Citi*Swim is based upon the values of fair play and allows each swimmer an opportunity to contribute to their team. The program includes stroke and skill improvement and physical training. Participants should be able to efficiently swim one length of the pool. Practices will be held 2-3 times per week for a total of three practice hours a week. Online registration for Fall and Winter programs begin August 15. In person registration available at recreation facilities and the Customer Service Centre beginning August 22.
