STEAMLabs

STEAMLabs is a non-profit community makerspace, where people of all ages and abilities come together for access to high tech tools, to learn, and to create. It’s a place where Science, Technology Engineering, Art and Math can all be used to invent the future; a place where your imagination can come to play!

Located in the heart of Toronto at 192 Spadina avenue at Queen, STEAMLabs will anchor the ground floor of the new 64,000 square foot headquarters of the Centre for Social Innovation.

With a target opening date of June 2015, the new STEAMLabs makerspace will be an entry point for both kids and adults looking to get started in digital fabrication, coding, hands-on making and electronics. It’s also a space for seasoned makers, entrepreneurs and artists looking to work with serious tools needed to get things done. We will offer full access memberships as well as stand-alone after school programs, weekend workshops and plenty of drop-in open make times.

About Summer Camps

  • Minecraft Pro
  • Web Controlled Arduino Robotics
  • Technology Sampler
  • Inventioneering Summer Camp

Our 2 week summer camps are designed around one of 3 topics – Minecraft, Internet controlled robots and Inventioneering. You can also choose to come for only 1 week. The Technology Sampler Camp is one week.

Every camp is interest driven. We present a wide range of topics, and you decide which ones you want to focus on. You can even suggest new topics you want to learn or to teach! The bottom line is that if you want to produce something creative with a topic, we’ll help you to do it!

Every camp emphasizes creativity. Your ideas are central – you learn the skills you need to make them happen.

Every camp is about making. You will bring new things into the world. For example, in our Minecraft camp, we use Minecraft as an introduction to all kinds of making – 3D printing, stop-motion animation, programming and more. In fact, since Minecraft is such a popular topic, we include some Minecraft activities in all our camps.

Throughout the 2 week period, you will work on individual projects and a big team project. As you discover topics of interest to you, these will guide your individual projects. You can always use skills you already know, too. It’s really up to you want you want to create! Participants only attending for one week will have a smaller role in the team projects.

Team members will form around ideas that inspire them. Everyone will have a different role to play on the team based on their strengths and interests. Someone will be strongest or most interested in ideas, mechanisms, electronics, programming and organizing the whole project. We will encourage you to find your own personal strengths and expand them!

Scholarships are available to reduce the fees for all of our summer camps.

Also available - Birthbay Parties, Drop-in Guided Making!
