High Five has been designed to promote the safety, well-being, and healthy development of children. This one-day leadership course is mandatory for anyone interested in working for City of Markham summer camps and/or seasonal programs.

Babysitter Training [C]

Looking to get into the babysitting business? Then this is the course for you! Learn the fundamentals of babysitting and safety in the home. Gain first-hand knowledge of caring for infants and children from the staff of Safety on Site (SOS). Cost includes instruction, manual and certificate. Please bring a lunch, drink, snack, pen and paper, and a large doll/teddy bear to practice on. No peanuts or nut products please! Age: 11-14

HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child (PHCD)

HIGH FIVE is a provincially-recognized certification for front-line leadership staff working in recreation programs, sports and camps for children aged 6 to 12. The program focuses on the principles of healthy child development and applying those principles in program planning and implementation of quality recreational experiences. This certification is mandatory for individuals seeking employment with Recreation and Culture department children's program and is an excellent opportunity to earn a certification for your resume. Age: 15+

Pool Pals

Complete your volunteer hours in a pool environment! Covers techniques to help in a class setting, child development, and more. This training must be completed prior to volunteering at any Oakville Recreation and Culture Department pool. You must hold a Bronze Medallion. Age: 13+
