LSS Coaching Clinic: Level 1

Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1 provides training for Lifesaving Instructors who wish to coach Lifesaving Sport at the community level. The course focuses on the fundamentals of coaching and Lifesaving Sport skills in the pool. Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1 may teach and certify the Society┬┐s Lifesaving Sport Fundamentals program. Prerequisite: Lifesaving Instructor award, Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid.

Safe Management Full course-Integration Counsellors

Safe Management's Crisis Intervention training system offers multi-level training based on level of risk and training needs of staff. Intended for staff working with participants who pose a moderate risk of escalation/aggression. This program provides both comprehensive training in risk management, relationship management, behaviour management, aggression management, as well as training in physical intervention skills.

Aquatic Supervisor Training

In order to take this course a person must have worked at least 100 hours as an instructor or lifeguard, hold an NLS and have a written recommendation from their supervisor. Mandatory manual is required. ( Guide to Ontario Public Pools Regulation ). You must purchase the manual at the community centre front desk. Course Length: 12 hrs.

Swim, Lifesaving & Emergency First Aid Instructors

The Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate basic swim strokes and related skills. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques. Current Swim Instructors teach and certify candidates in all levels of the Swim for Life® program. The Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor course prepares individuals to organize, plan, teach and evaluate lifesaving and first aid skills and resuscitation techniques in the Society's lifesaving and first aid awards. Because the Society's first aid courses are recognized by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, the Society complies with the WSIB's request that only 'first aid instructors' teach WSIB approved courses. Required Materials: Lifesaving Instructor Pack will be charged at the time of registration. If not already owned; Current Canadian Lifesaving Manual and Current Canadian First Aid Manual may be purchased for an additional fee. Prerequisite: 16 years of age by the end of the course, Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross.

Lifesaving Assistant Instructor

Prerequisite: 14 years of age and current Bronze Cross (or higher) certification and Standard First Aid. Through classroom learning and in-water practise, this program prepares candidates to help certified instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. You will be introduced to key principles of learning and teaching, and master basic progressions. The roles and responsibilities of instructors and their assistants are emphasized. 100% attendance is required.
