Adapted Swim Lessons For Children

This program (formerly known as Children with Special Needs) is designed for children with learning, physical or intellectual difficulties. It focuses on developing sound water safety habits and basic swimming skills. To participate in this program, each child must be accompanied in the water by their own caregiver/volunteer. This individual must be at least 14 years of age and comfortable in a water environment, they should be familiar with the child's physical and emotional needs, and capable of managing the general progress in a safe manner. Class groups of no greater than five participants will be directed by qualified instructors, caregivers/volunteers will be instructed on techniques to assist with the learning process.

Aquafitness Fusion ≈

This program blends the various aquafitness styles into one class taught both in the shallow and deep ends of the pool. This class will provide a variety of exercises that target each large muscle group of the body to achieve a full body workout. The class will include workouts to increase cardiovascular endurance, circuit training to increase muscle strength and endurance and exercises to improve core strength. Class design includes a warm up, workout and cool down with stretches. Get ready for a fusion of a workout!

Bronze Cross Recertification / Challenge

Bronze Cross needs to be recertified every two years. Participants need to bring proof of certification (expired card) for recertification. Candidates may challenge the complete exam by performing all test items. Proof of Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid/ CPRB will be required to challenge the Bronze Cross.

Bronze Cross Standard First Aid CPR C

Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600m swim. Standard First Aid / CPR C certifications are recognized by WSIB. Required materials are available for purchase at a community centre. ( Canadian First Aid Manual) Prerequisites: Emergency First Aid/CPR B and Bronze Medallion. Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for the National Lifeguard Service Award and Instructors Course. Exam date to be confirmed at the pool. Course Length: 31.5 hrs. Please note: Due to a revised safety standard, the diving skills in Learn to Swim levels 5 and higher will not be taught at the Frank McKechnie, River Grove, and South Common pools beginning with the Fall 2017 session.

Bronze Medallion Emergency FA CPR B

Candidate will learn rescue techniques, resuscitation and the history of the Lifesaving Society. The Emergency First Aid/CPR B provides technical knowledge and practical experience in rescue breathing, CPR and emergency care. Requried materials are available for purchase at a community centre. (Canadian Lifesaving Manual and Bronze Medallion Workbook). Exam date and time to be confirmed at the pool. Prerequisite: 13 years of age by the end of the course or hold Bronze Star award. Course Length: 27 hrs. Please note: Due to a revised safety standard, the diving skills in Learn to Swim levels 5 and higher will not be taught at the Frank McKechnie, River Grove, and South Common pools beginning with the Fall 2017 session.

Fitness Swimmer Adult

No matter what your age, Fitness Swimmer lets you set your own goals. This class is designed as a cardiovascular workout to increase your fitness level. Fitness swimmer is a structured approach based on accepted training principles and practices including interval training, sprints and distance swims. Participants should be able to swim 25m. Please note: Due to a revised safety standard, the diving skills in Learn to Swim levels 5 and higher will not be taught at the Frank McKechnie, River Grove, and South Common pools beginning with the Fall 2017 session.

H3O Swim For Life 1

This program is taught at a 3 to 1 ratio. These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a lifejacket. They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They'll work on floats on their front and back, glides and kicking through the water on their front, back and side. Recommended: non-swimmer or completed Swim For Life Preschool A, B, C, D or repeating Swim For Life 1. Class Length: 30 min.

H3O Swim For Life 4

This program is taught at a 3 to 1 ratio. These junior swimmers add to their aquatic bag of tricks with in-water handstands and work towards the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard: jump into deep water, tread 30 sec. and swim 15 m. They'll improve their front crawl, back crawl, learn whip kick on their back and increase their interval training (4 x 10 m) kicking workout. Recommended completed Swim For Life 3. Class Length: 30 min.

Confirmation receipts will be mailed within 2 weeks or e-mailed immediately

Online registration for Fall and Winter programs begin August 15. In person registration available at recreation facilities and the Customer Service Centre beginning August 22.

Programs with low enrollment may be cancelled. Remember to register early.
