More about Summer Camp 2015
Ages 2.5 - SK
Our youngest campers enjoy a close knit cabin group experience having access to all the different age appropriate activities our camp has to offer. Our campers are supervised by caring and spirited staff who spend the day engaged and involved, assisting our campers to acquire new skills. We use the “W.O.W” approach to camper supervision – With Over Watch – our staff are actively ‘WITH’ their campers, not ‘WATCHing’ from a far. Each junior camp cabin has at least one ECE student as a group leader.
Unique to most other camps, Adventure Valley does not require your child to be toilet trained to attend camp. Our staff are patient and caring and work with you and your child to assist in the training process.
Grades 1 & 2
For campers completing Grade 1 & 2 we have an amazing line up of activities that introduce your camper to a wide variety of disciplines. Creative Arts, Theatre Arts, Traditional Sports, Adventure Sports, Music and Science/Nature. You can view our activities in action by clicking on any one of the links below.
Grouped by age and gender, our Jumper unit enjoys a close connection with their counselors and cabin mates while exploring all the fun that AV offers each day.
Best of all, our Jumpers are offered the opportunity to have a Camp Out on site every two weeks! Camp is amazing during the day, but we all know it becomes extra special at night when we sit around the campfire eating S’mores and singing our favorite camp songs!
Grades 3-7 (CYOA)
Our campers who have completed grade 3 or 4 are grouped in the Flyers Unit. Our oldest group, having completed grade 5 or 6 are in the Cruisers Unit. These two units together make up Senior Camp!
Senior Camp campers are given the privilege of choosing their afternoon activities each and every week! At this age, your camper knows what activities they love most and we want to empower them to make their experience at AV absolutely spectacular. This is aptly called Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA).
As part of CYOA your camper is placed in a cabin group with other campers of the same age and gender for the morning rotations, meals and Swimming Lessons, but will follow their personalized schedules each afternoon Tuesday through Thursday. Our cabin counselors assist in different specialty areas but meet up with their cabin groups for sunscreen re-application, lunch and dismissal. Cabins also participate as a group for each Friday Fun Day and Evening Camp Outs. This is the perfect mix of traditional camp fun and bonding, along with a personalized camp experience that no other camp can match.
From the huge list of amazing camp programs in sports, adventure, arts and science your camper picks 2 activities that they would enjoy focusing on during their CYOA. We view each camper as a unique individual with particular likes and dislikes. Children have the most fun when they are engaged in activities they love! That’s why we created CYOA. Because we like to see our campers smile!
As part of their camp program, our Flyer and Cruiser campers are invited to take part in a Camp Out on site every two weeks. Specialized evening programs are planned making each sleepover extra special. And of course, who doesn’t love a good dose of S’Mores by the fire!
Another fabulous program available is our Challengers Sports Camp program. Challengers offers a full of sports lead by trained, experienced and respected coaches in their field. Campers choose 4 of their favourite sports to train in each week giving them the opportunity to develop skill and athleticism. Sports campers enjoy a red cross swim lesson and fun swim each day.
Grades 7 & 8
Our Leadership Training Program is designed for teens who are ready to further develop their leadership abilities and assume more responsibilities at camp. Our program combines good old fashioned camp fun with hands-on leadership experience and the chance to demonstrate responsibility.
Trainees are in a co-ed group, spending portions of time together in activities around camp, or in group meetings where they discuss topics of leadership, teamwork, communication, responsibility, child care, and problem solving.
Our goal is to motivate young leaders to improve their leadership skills, enhance their self-confidence, to promote team building, and the ability to work cooperatively, and to ultimately help them prepare to be future camp leaders.
As part of our leadership experience, our Trainees will enjoy a one night overnight with their Senior Staff at camp during the first week of camp. This overnight allows for the Trainees to get to know one another, their Supervisors and begin their program in a fun and exciting way. If you have any questions about the overnight please speak to Robyn at the camp office.
Our Leadership program is limited in number to ensure each participant receives timely feedback and opportunities to get involved in all areas of camp.
The Leadership program has a minimum enrolment of 4 consecutive weeks. Part of this time is dedicated to participating in an Emergency First Aid and CPR course provided by the camp.
Challenge Sports
For students who have completed Grade 9, we offer an apprenticeship program that welcomes them to camp to begin the process of transitioning from camper to staff. Apprentices volunteer their time to explore different roles withing the camp and assist with our full time staff in the day-to-day fun. These volunteer hours will be acknowledged for high school community service hours.
Overnight Trips
Language and Literacy Camp (Campers finishing JK- Grade 3)
Special Needs / Inclusion (TLC)
Our TLC program has welcomed children with a wide variety of exceptional circumstances. We have enjoyed the participation of children in wheelchairs, on the autism spectrum, those with learning difficulties, and Downs Syndrome. We love to see all children thrive in our small and welcoming camp community and work hard to find the right one on one companion for our TLC campers. For those who wish to have their child accompanied by their full time therapists we welcome your staff at our camp too.
An additional fee of $200.00 per week is charged for campers who are a part of our TLC program.
