Class Descriptions
- Pre-Dance - Age 3 – Introduction to dance and movement to music. Classes run 45 minutes in length.
- Combo - Age 4 & 5 – These 1 hour classes are a combination of ballet, acro, and jazz. They are a great way to introduce different dance forms to the young beginner dancer.
- Mini-Dance Program - Age 4 & 5 – A more intensive program than the combo class, mini-dance students take either 1¾ or 2 hours of classes in ballet and jazz/acro. Students will learn basic steps through fun & creative movements.
- Pre-Competitive Program – Age 5 & 6 – For the young dancer interested in Evolution’s Competitive Team. Classes in ballet, tap, and jazz/acro will prepare the young dancer with the basic skills needed to pursue competitive dance. Dancers in this program usually attend competitive auditions after the recital in June.
- Ballet - Age 5 & up – Ballet is the foundation of all of the other dance disciplines. To be a great dancer, you must have a strong ballet background. This classical form of dance improves posture, flexibility, grace and fluidity of motion.
- Jazz - Age 5 & up – This fundamental dance form combines classical ballet technique and modern stylized movements to popular and energetic music. Jazz is one of the most expressive forms of dance that is fun, exciting and entertaining.
- Acro - Age 5 & up – Acrobatics is a combination of ballet, jazz and gymnastics. A discipline that teaches tricks, flips and partner lifts while improving flexibility, strength, agility and control. This art form is seen in Cirque du Soleil.
- Tap - Age 5 & up – This timeless dance form incorporates smooth rhythm, timing and co-ordination through various combinations of intricate steps. The dancers make music with their feet.
- Stretch and Strength - Age 5 & up – All competitive students must include this class in their dance schedule. This class will increase their flexibility, strength and control through various exercises, jumps and turns.
- Hip Hop - Age 6 & up – This high energy class uses cool and funky moves to trendy hip hop music. It is fun, creative and very expressive. This style of movement is a refined form of street dance seen in music videos, commercials, television, and movies. The cutting edge choreography that you will learn is a must for the Entertainment Industry.
- Musical Theatre - Age 6 & up – Song & Dance movements inspired from musicals and movies, more commonly known as Broadway Dance. It is fun, creative and very expressive.
- Vocal – Age 6 & up – This unique class is taught by a Vocal Coach/Teacher. The children learn how to sing lyrics while accompanied by a piano. This class is essential to all students who want a future in the Entertainment Industry and to be a successful Triple Threat performer.
- Lyrical - Age 8 & up – This form combines the beauty and grace of ballet and the style and strength of jazz technique set to a slower pace of music. The movements portray emotion, grace, poise and control to express a story.
- Modern/Contemporary - Age 10 & up – This unique form of dance is also a combination of ballet, jazz and lyrical in order to communicate a particular story or emotion. Some of the choices of moves are opposite to ballet (flexed feet instead of pointed). Rather than a combination of traditional ballet or jazz steps, this form of dance incorporates new and innovative movements through groundbreaking choreography.
- Pointe - Age 10 & up – Pointe work is a very beautiful and exciting form of ballet for the technically advanced dancer. This very difficult art form requires several years of serious demi-pointe ballet training, focus, and dedication in order to succeed.
- Ballroom - Age 10 & up – Learn Waltz, Paso Doble, Foxtrot, Swing – Jive, Rumba and Tango.
- Latin - Age 10 & up – Learn Salsa, Cha Cha, Merengue, Samba and Mambo.
- Pilates/Fusion - Age 12 & up – Train inside out from the core (abs) and all of the muscles in your body. Increase flexibility and enhance mind, body & soul through slow movement. These classes are an excellent way to improve your cardio while toning your body.
