National Lifeguard - Pool

National Lifeguard certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50 m sprint challenge, 50 m rescue drill and 400 m endurance challenge. Materials are available for purchase at a community centre. (Alert Lifeguarding in Action Manual ). Exam date and time to be confirmed at the pool -100 per cent participation strongly recommended. Prerequisites: minimum 16 years of age, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid (need not be current) from one of: Lifesaving Society, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Ski Patrol. Course Length: 44 hrs. Swim For Life 3

These advanced beginners will be comfortable jumping and falling sideways wearing a lifejacket into deep water. They'll tread water for 30 sec., learn whip kick, swim front and back crawl 5 m, improve their front, back and side flutter kicks and participate in an interval training (4 x 7 m) kicking workout. Recommended completed Swim For Life 2. Class Length: 30 min.

This is a combined course that includes Swim For Life Adult levels 1 and 2. Participants will be taught according to age and ability. Whether you're just starting out or just want help with your strokes, our Youth & Adult Program is for the young at heart - no matter what your age. Set your own goals. Work with certified instructors to learn to swim, or improve your current swimming ability and water fitness.

Drop In Seniors' Centre Billiards/Snooker

Snooker is a cue sport that is played on a green covered table with pockets in each of the 4 corners. Other costs include $7 per month, unlimited play or $2.00 per visit (the $60 annual membership fee offers unlimited play). *Note: Mississauga Seniors' Centre membership is required to participate in this program. Confirmation receipts will be mailed within 2 weeks or e-mailed immediately

Online registration for Fall and Winter programs begin August 15. In person registration available at recreation facilities and the Customer Service Centre beginning August 22.

Programs with low enrollment may be cancelled. Remember to register early.
